Wael Sawan

Wael Sawan is Chief Executive Officer of Shell plc, one of the world's largest integrated energy companies with operations spanning oil and gas exploration, LNG production, refining, chemicals, and renewable energy. Born in Lebanon and raised across multiple countries, Sawan joined Shell in 1997 and built his career through leadership roles in upstream, integrated gas, and renewables divisions. He became CEO in January 2023 and has focused Shell's strategy on delivering value through disciplined capital allocation, operational excellence, and a balanced energy transition approach. Under his leadership, Shell has strengthened its position in LNG trading while maintaining investments in low-carbon solutions. Sawan holds a mechanical engineering degree from McGill University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
